Volcano Project Instructions: Read the following information before starting your project. 1. Select one of the 3 major types of volcanos to research a. Shield Volcanos b. Composite Volcanos (also called Stratovolcanos) c. Cinder Cone Volcanos 2. Use the search engines on your computer to find out details about the type you chose. 3. List the major characteristics of the type you chose. a. Composition of the magma (Silica, Water Vapor, Type Gases) b. Type of Magma (Runny, Chunky, Sticky, Thick) c. Type of Eruption (Slow Quiet, Spewing, Explosive) 4. Describe the shape of the type of volcano you chose (large base, flat top, steep sides, cone-top) 5. Where do you find these volcanos? 6. How are these volcanos formed? 7. Be prepared to talk about your type of volcano giving some of this information to the rest of the class 8. Construct a model of the type of volcano that you chose. Guidelines: 1. Keep it simple. Build a model just to illustrate the specific type that you chose. 2. No explosives. You may use things like vinegar, baking soda, food coloring for your model. 3. Use simple materials: newspaper, cardboard, modeling clay, dirt clay, gravel, etc.
